Last Thursday I attended the monthly Parkinson’s Disease Support Group (takes place every third Thursday at 6:00 at p.m. at Utah Specialty Hospital, 306 West River Bend Lane, Provo). Dan Adams and Brett Walker from PhotoPharmics explained the science behind an exciting new non-drug study for Parkinson’s Disease. To learn more, go to www.LightForPD.com. In the meantime, here’s the gist:
The sleep/wake cycle of an individual with Parkinson’s Disease is severely disrupted. This causes virtually every other facet of life to be disrupted. This study exposes an individual to light for about one hour each evening for a period of 6 months to regulate the cycle. So far, the results have been very promising, with improved overall quality of life being at the top of the list.
If you are interested in participating, go to their website to see if you qualify. Participants who complete the study will receive $500 compensation.
If you or a loved one have Parkinson’s and would like speech, voice, or swallow therapy, reach out to Live Well Speech Therapy for a free consultation. We serve Utah County.
